1. Introduction

Defensible Edge Labs, LLC ("Defensible Edge," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Defensible Edge platform at defensibleedge.app and the marketing website at defensibleedgelabs.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account or are invited to a community, we collect your name, email address, and role within the community. Passwords are hashed using Argon2 and are never stored in plain text.

Community Data

Community administrators may enter data about properties, inspections, action plans, volunteer hours, events, and related wildfire mitigation activities. This data is stored in isolated, per-community database schemas and is only accessible to authorized users within that community and their assigned consultants.

Waitlist Information

If you join our waitlist, we collect your email address, community name, and any optional message you provide. This information is used solely to contact you about platform availability.

Usage Data

We may collect information about how you access and use the platform, including your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and actions taken. This data helps us improve the platform and diagnose issues.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Defensible Edge platform
  • To send transactional emails (account verification, password resets, notifications about inspections, required actions, and community events)
  • To send waitlist confirmation and follow-up communications
  • To respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
  • To monitor and analyze usage trends to improve user experience
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues and security threats

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Within your community: Community data is shared with authorized users (admins, staff, and assigned consultants) within the same community
  • Service providers: We use third-party services to operate the platform, including Neon (database hosting), Vercel (application hosting), and Resend (email delivery). These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • Argon2 password hashing
  • JWT-based session management with secure, HTTP-only cookies
  • Schema-based data isolation between communities
  • Role-based access control (RBAC) within each community
  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Parameterized database queries to prevent SQL injection

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and community data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, subject to any legal retention requirements. Community data is retained according to the community's subscription terms.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal information
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@defensibleedgelabs.com.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy accordingly.

9. Children's Privacy

Defensible Edge is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
